Today's Devotional

Living on Purpose God desires that we bear much good fruit (see John 15:1–5). That can only occur if we are people who live life “on purpose.” Each day, we should prayerfully think through what we would like to accomplish that day and then purpose to do it. If we are vague and thoughtless, it is more likely that we won’t accomplish much at all. Vague people wait to see how they feel before taking action, but purposeful people take the proper action no matter how they feel about it. We live in a world of distractions, and even purposeful people need to be wise and not get off track. Many things scream for our attention, and yet it is up to each of us to decide what God would have us give our attention to. If I need to clean my house today, should I do that or go shopping with a friend who called at the last minute with an invitation? If I need to pay my bills and balance my bank account, should I do that or get distracted by television and sit on the couch most of the day? Many pe...

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Image
YOU AND THIS JOURNEY AGAIN!!!!! Hurray!!!!! The earth has yet again began another round of its usual journey around the sun. Its occupants rejoices for seeing the completion of the just concluded journey and the privilege it has got to journey along once again in this vehicular ball of existence. Apparently, we all (earth's temporary dwellers, ETD) moves along the course of earth's journey discharging what we bring along to the earth as we move towards our passing over to the beyond. The earth's journey encounters series of events to which the occupants have become subject. These either makes or mars them. To this wit, anyone who succeeds every round of this journey undoubtedly have reasons for which to rejoice. Limitation in knowledge will fail me to assert how many times the earth has completed this journey but with the current available measurement of time, I may perhaps be condoned to say the earth has at least taking a turn of 2018 and just commences its 2019th roun...

JESUS: A MESSIAH FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:1–2) Unlike Luke, Matthew does not tell us about the shepherds coming to visit Jesus in the stable. His focus is immediately on foreigners — Gentiles, non-Jews — coming from the east to worship Jesus. So, Matthew portrays Jesus at the beginning and ending of his Gospel as a universal Messiah for all the nations, not just for Jews. Here the first worshipers are court magicians, or astrologers, or wise men not from Israel but from the East — perhaps from Babylon. They were Gentiles. Unclean, according to the Old Testament ceremonial laws. And at the end of Matthew, the last words of Jesus are, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18–19). This not only opened the door for us Gentiles to rejoice in th...
